Nutritional Approach to Diabetic Felines

Nutrition is an essential component of managing diabetic feline patients. This lecture will explain how the proper diet can improve glycemic control, potentially reducing or eliminating the need for exogenous insulin therapy. Veterinary technicians play an important role in providing nutritional education to the owners of diabetic patients; the types of appropriate diets and the importance of consistency will be discussed, providing attendees with an excellent basis to care for diabetic cats and educate their owners. A case example of a patient who achieved non-insulin dependence is used to illustrate the theories presented.
