Improve Outcomes for Postoperative or Injured Patients

This lecture will present an overview of tissue healing and how this affects treatment planning for optimal recovery of patients. A fundamental understanding of how all tissues heal is the basis of building an appropriate rehabilitation plan.  We will review each stage of tissue healing and provide examples of appropriate modalities and exercises for each stage. We will also review the latest evidence supporting post-operative rehabilitation strategies in dogs. The mechanism of action and evidence for Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ECSWT) and Targeted Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy will also be presented. Finally, we will present a case example of how rehabilitation exercises and modalities are used to improve recovery following musculoskeletal injury.
