Stomatitis is a painful and often debilitating condition affecting both feline and canine patients, characterized by severe inflammation of the oral mucosa. While the syndrome is more prevalent and better defined in cats, similar inflammatory conditions do occur in dogs. This lecture will explore the current understanding of stomatitis, including its clinical manifestations, differential diagnoses, diagnostic strategies, and current therapeutic options. Emphasis will be placed on patient selection, full-mouth radiographic interpretation, immune-mediated pathophysiology, surgical versus medical management, and long-term outcomes.
