Feline Neurologic Examination & Common Diseases
The session will begin with a practical, cat-friendly approach to performing a neurological exam in even the most uncooperative feline patients, highlighting modifications that improve diagnostic accuracy while reducing stress for both the veterinarian and the cat. From there, we’ll explore some of the most common neurological diseases seen in feline patients, including seizures, vestibular disorders, spinal cord disease, and neurologic presentations of systemic conditions such as feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). Emphasis will be placed on clinical clues that can help differentiate from each of the conditions to help practitioners develop their differential list so they can focus on treating the treatable when MRI and advanced diagnostics are not available.
- 1. Differentiate between common feline neurological conditions. 2. Describe how you can approach the neurological exam in cats and feline-specific considerations to keep in mind. 3. Develop appropriate differential lists when advanced imaging is not available.
