Accurate classification of canine CLE is essential for guiding therapy and prognosis. While VCLE and FDLE often respond favorably to treatment, ECLE remains difficult to manage. It is also important to recognize lupus-like diseases that may get confused for lupus. These include symmetrical lupoid onychodystrophy, erythema multiforme, and ischemic dermatopathy.

- 3. Understand some of the differences in diagnosis and treatment of discussed diseases
