This session will review best practices for recovery monitoring, patient assessment, and intervention during the post-anesthetic period. Attendees will learn how pain, dysphoria, hypothermia, respiratory compromise, and other common recovery challenges can affect patient outcomes. Emphasis will be placed on developing individualized recovery and analgesia plans that support smooth recoveries, minimize complications, and enhance patient welfare.

  • Identify factors that contribute to complications during the anesthetic recovery period.
  • Differentiate between pain, dysphoria, and other causes of abnormal recovery behaviors in veterinary patients.
  • Develop recovery monitoring and pain management plans that promote patient comfort and reduce post-anesthetic complications.
