Surgery

For several decades, minimally invasive surgery (MIS) has demonstrated significant benefits in human medicine. It has become the standard of care for numerous surgical procedures due to its enhanced visualization, improved safety, and reduced patient morbidity. While the transition in veterinary medicine has been more recent, the availability of MIS has dramatically expanded over the past 25 years, benefiting our patients. This presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of MIS in veterinary medicine, with a particular emphasis on the more recent and advanced procedures. We will explore the diagnostic criteria employed to determine the candidacy of patients for advanced MIS procedures, as well as a detailed discussion of the procedures themselves, their associated patient benefits, and the expectations surrounding them. As the demand for MIS continues to rise among pet owners, this presentation will cover the availability of MIS and address common questions.

  • What advanced MIS procedures are available in veterinary medicine
  • Diagnostic criteria for candidacy for these MIS procedures
  • Benefits and advantages of advanced MIS procedures
