Common Dental Pathology You’re Probably Missing

October 29, 2026
Bronx Clinical Theater
Dentistry

This lecture reviews key categories of oral pathology, including periodontal disease, developmental abnormalities, tooth resorption, traumatic dental injuries, and endodontic disease. These conditions are either subclinical or deceptively mild on visual exam, requiring intra-oral radiographs and periodontal probing for accurate diagnosis. Overall, the lecture stresses early detection and intervention to prevent advanced disease and improve patient outcomes.

  • Oral disease is common, progressive, and frequently underdiagnosed in veterinary patients
  • Many clinically important conditions are occult and require diagnostic tools beyond visual exam
  • Timely diagnosis and intervention are essential to prevent pain, disease progression, and more invasive treatment
