October 29, 2026
VMANYC Clinical Theater
Oncology

This presentation will collate the available information on patient outcomes when pet owners decline surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy for common cancers. This information is critical in enhancing veterinarians ability help pet owners make informed decisions about referral to a cancer specialist. The information will also help meet pet owners expectations regarding a spectrum of care options for their pet.

Learning objectives
Based on information collated from the veterinary peer reviewed literature, attendees will learn:

  • The prognosis for common cancers when traditional cancer treatments are declined.
  • The prognosis for the same cancers when traditional treatments are administered.
  • Communication strategies to use when talking to pet owners about cancer.
