This session explores common emergency presentations in exotic patients and the nursing care required during hospitalization and ICU management. Participants will review frequently encountered diseases in birds, reptiles, and small mammals, along with practical techniques for vascular access, monitoring, and supportive care. The lecture will also address documentation and workflow considerations specific to exotic patient hospitalization.

  • Identify common emergency presentations and disease processes in exotic species requiring ICU care
  • Describe techniques for vascular access, including IV and IO catheter placement in exotic patients
  • Implement species-appropriate monitoring and nursing care strategies during hospitalization
