Managing Diabetes with SGLT2-inhibitors in 2026 - Lessons Beyond the Label

The introduction of SGLT2-inhibitors has been nothing short of a revolution in the management of feline diabetes mellitus. Treatment of diabetes mellitus is now possible without the constant threat of hypoglycaemia and thus the need of lifelong glucose monitoring. Treatment is also possible for those caregivers who cannot deal with the daily necessity of insulin injection therapy. This lecture will talk about those aspects where the original guidelines and possibly label contradicts the medical reality and will include topics like: 1. who is truly the right candidate; 2. is measuring ketones really necessary; 3. do I need to check for pancreatitis in all patients; 4. can I use it for other types of diabetes and more. The lecture will answer most of the questions that most of the colleagues will have had about SGLT2i - all delivered by the person who has been working with this category of drugs for nearly a decade now.
