Scales, Feathers, and Fur – Advanced Exotic Animal Nursing Techniques

This session focuses on advanced nursing techniques for exotic patients, including vascular access, anesthesia monitoring, and post-surgical recovery. Participants will learn how to adapt standard small animal equipment for use in exotic species and develop creative solutions for managing patients with unique anatomical and physiological needs. Specialized techniques such as endotracheal intubation in exotic species will also be discussed.

• Perform advanced nursing techniques, including IV/IO catheter placement in exotic species
• Apply anesthesia monitoring strategies tailored to avian, reptile, and small mammal patients
• Adapt and modify standard veterinary equipment for safe and effective use in exotic animals
• Describe techniques for endotracheal intubation and post-operative care in exotic patients
