Separating Science from Social Media: An Ask the Specialist Panel

Our four Specialty panelists will each discuss the top 3 myths and misperceptions they encounter in practice and how they combat them (e.g., truth sandwich and empathy-first framework), followed by an open Q&A where audience members will have the opportunity to ask the questions caregivers may bring to them and get help challenging topics.

  • Identify common veterinary myths and misperceptions encountered in clinical practice as it relates to nutrition, dentistry, and internal medicine and recognize why they persist among caregivers and online communities.
  • Evaluate the quality of animal-health claims by applying a simple evidence framework (e.g., study design basics, source credibility, red flags in “viral” advice).
  • Formulate clear, client-friendly responses that correct misinformation while maintaining rapport—using concise risk/benefit language and practical next-step recommendations.
