Extracapsular CrCL Repair and MPL Workshop

Cranial cruciate ligament (CrCL) insufficiency and medial patellar luxations are common orthopedic problems in dogs and cats. Successful treatment of these conditions requires accurate diagnosis and assessment. This course will provide up-to-date information on the etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of cranial cruciate ligament insufficiency and patellar luxation. Lectures and labs will emphasize techniques that can readily be performed in practice. Additionally, this course will cover Medial Patella Luxation (MPL), a common orthopedic condition in dogs that often occurs alongside CrCL insufficiency. MPL results from improper alignment of the quadriceps mechanism, leading to patellar displacement and varying degrees of lameness.

Participants will learn how to differentiate partial versus complete tears of the CrCL. The course will include sections on stifle extracapsular repair, treatment of meniscal tears and meniscal release, and treatment of medial patella luxation using the latest technology and surgical techniques. Participants will also learn how to treat CrCL in patients having concomitant MPL. Following the lecture and case review, participants will perform all these different techniques on plastic bone models.

Postoperative management will also be discussed.

Workshop Objectives

Hands-on training led by expert instructors equals enhanced proficiency and improved surgical skills. Build your confidence with accuracy and efficiency:

  • Study stifle extracapsular repair, treatment of meniscal tears and meniscal release and treatment of MPL.
  • Become familiarized with the latest technology and surgical techniques to utilize.
  • Perform all these different techniques on plastic bone models.
  • Learn quality postoperative management techniques.
