Effective CaOx Prevention and the Story Behind Voiding Urohydropropulsion

Nov 07, 2019
Clinician’s Brief Clinical Theater 2

Cystotomy is over 150 years old and much has not changed. Surgeons still leave stones behind and suture material in the bladder lumen causes 10 to 20% of recurrences. This presentation tells the story behind voiding urohydropropulsion and uses a case to discuss how the procedure is used. We will also discuss the three most important strategies to prevent calcium oxalate urolith recurrence.

  • The most effective therapy to prevent Calcium oxalate recurrence
  • 1. Hire an accomplished surgeon
  • 2. Over achieve urine results (low specific gravity and neutral pH with potassium citrate)
  • 3. Image often to detect stones early to allow rapid removal by voiding urohydropropulsion.
